On Thursday, Ms. Taylor from the Memphis Botanic Gardens
came to camp and taught us all about worms!!
came to camp and taught us all about worms!!
She began by reading us Diary of a Worm, by Doreen Cronin and Harry Bliss.
This hysterical picture books tells the daily doings of a small worm in a gigantic worm world.
We learned about the different sections of a worm,
and how they are important because they make soil.
and how they are important because they make soil.
Then Ms. Taylor opened a big tub of dirt and worms,
and held one, encouraging the children to gently feel it's slimy skin.
Afterwards, we had a Worm Wiggle Race!
Each child laid on his/her belly, hands behind their back, feet crossed at their ankles
and had to wiggle to the other side of the room!
Many of our little worms sprouted hands, elbows, knees and feet! But some persisted to the bitter end. It's not easy moving without legs!
