Independence Day T-Shirts

Allison Buchanan (K2) and Ashley Waldron (4K) initiated the cutest 4th of July craft
- a painted t-shirt.

No matter the class, if you would like your child to bring home a customized t-shirt
please send them to camp this week with a labeled white t-shirt.
Prior to Wednesday is preferable.

Super sweet! Thank you Ms. Ashley and Ms. Allison for your creativity and initiative!

Week 5 - The Heart of Summer!

It's the 5th week of camp and we're halfway through summer! It's hard to believe.

We spent the day playing Hot Potato (a water balloon throwing/catching game),

If you are in 4K, you learned Patriotic songs and made some beautiful windsocks!

3K discovered that Bermuda Grass seedlings resemble chicken feet!
We painted paper yellow with sponges,

and while our papers dried, went to the field and picked feet for our chickens!!
We cut out circles, pasted the feet, some googly eyes and beaks to our birds
and drew pictures around them.
We asked the children to take their chickens on an adventure!
Some went to Jerry's Sno Cone, others to the beach, and my favorite the chicken dancing at a party!!
Finished project pictures will come tomorrow.

Face Paint Transformation!

On Thursday, June 26th, Amy Stone visited our camp and transformed our little ones with amazing face paint!

Summer Snow!

With temps in the 90's, we decided to cool things off a bit inside by making snow!

All it took was a little shaving cream,

some cornstarch,

and glitter.

So messy!!

SO FUN!!

Pirates, Princesses and Dragons!

During our Pirates and Princess week, the children made adorable painted-hand pirates

and fire-breathing dragons!

Using green paper cups, google eyes and red, orange and yellow streamers,
they carefully assembled them.

With a huff and a puff, the children made them come to life!

Water Slide!

Every other Wednesday our Little Rams have an opportunity to slide down a big blow-up water slide!

If they are apprehensive and need a little reassurance, our counselors offer to go with them.

Afterwards, we enjoy popsicles on the breezeway.

Upcoming slide dates for Water Wednesday are July 9th and July 23rd.

Kindergarten Fun!

Both Kindergarten classes have enjoyed an active summer
with daily dance parties, outdoor play and games.

In addition, Mrs. Douglas is reading Chapter Books throughout the summer
to interested Kindergarten students to encourage reading.

On our first day of camp, we started reading Ramona the Pest, by Beverly Cleary. We average about 20-25 pages per day and on Friday, had only 10 pages to go!

Our next chapter book will be Charlotte's Web by E.B. White.
It's been a wonderful experience for me as a teacher, and I hope for the children
who have shown interest in participating.

3K Butterflies

This week the kids in 3K made beautiful
handprint butterflies to take home.

In addition, our cup of caterpillars arrived from Insect Lore. All week we've been watching the 5 caterpillars eat and grow. By Friday, all formed a chrysalis and we carefully placed them in the butterfly habitat on Friday afternoon.

In the coming week, we look forward to watching our chrysalis
transform into butterflies and releasing
them into the courtyard prayer garden.

Ms. Ashley's Room - 4K

Ms. Ashley Waldron has done an amazing job making beautiful keepsake crafts for the children in her 4K room to take home each day!

In addition, the children have enjoyed fun snacks,
such as the worms in dirt snack celebrated this week!

Children crushed Oreo cookies and mixed them with chocolate pudding for dirt.

What would dirt be without worms?!

Gummy worms were added to the mix.

They had so much fun!

Memphis Botanic Gardens - Worms and Dirt

On Thursday, Ms. Taylor from the Memphis Botanic Gardens
came to camp and taught us all about worms!!

She began by reading us Diary of a Worm, by Doreen Cronin and Harry Bliss.
This hysterical picture books tells the daily doings of a small worm in a gigantic worm world.

We learned about the different sections of a worm,
and how they are important because they make soil.

Then Ms. Taylor opened a big tub of dirt and worms,
and held one, encouraging the children to gently feel it's slimy skin.

Afterwards, we had a Worm Wiggle Race!

Each child laid on his/her belly, hands behind their back, feet crossed at their ankles
and had to wiggle to the other side of the room!

Many of our little worms sprouted hands, elbows, knees and feet! But some persisted to the bitter end. It's not easy moving without legs!

Water Wednesday - WK 2!

Thanks to Mother Nature, we had all sorts of water prior to Water Wednesday!
In fact, it was so muddy, the big slide was postponed until next week,
so weather permitting, we will have the Big Water Slide for our 4K and Kindergartners
for the next TWO Wednesdays! (June 18th and 25th)

The sun managed to make an appearance and around 10:30,
we filled our pools, blew up our beach balls and sprayed on the sunscreen
for some outdoor fun!

Please remember to send your child in a bathing suit with a labeled towel each Wednesday.
If you have not already done so, pack sunscreen as well! We'll keep it in the classroom.

Bug Presentation!

On Tuesday, scientist Steve Owens (father of Olivia -K2 and Stella - 3K)
visited camp and taught us all about
BUGS!

We passed around bugs in jars of water,

felt fossils,

wore locust shells,

and looked at bugs under a microscope!

We talked about all sorts of other stuff too...pollution, habitats,
scientists, potions, polar bears!
When taking questions from a group of preschoolers, there's no telling where the conversation may go!

Thank you Mr. Owens for a very fun, informative day!
